Ghost Immobiliser
An Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser is a covert electronic immobilisation system designed to prevent your vehicle from being driven by an unauthorised person.

What Is a Ghost Immobiliser?
An Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser is a covert electronic immobilisation system designed to prevent your vehicle from being driven by an unauthorised person.
Unlike a conventional immobiliser that relies on a visible alarm or additional remote control, the Ghost is designed to integrate discreetly with the vehicle's electronics.
Once installed, the system can require a personalised disarm sequence using the vehicle's existing buttons before the vehicle can be driven.
This means that even if a thief manages to obtain your vehicle's key or uses electronic theft techniques to gain access to the vehicle, the Ghost provides an additional security layer between the thief and the vehicle being driven away.
The Ghost-II uses the vehicle's CAN bus system and is currently listed by Autowatch as TASSA verified.
The exact Ghost product and installation method required depends on the vehicle, which is why we check compatibility before confirming your installation.
Why Do I Need a Ghost Immobiliser?
Modern vehicles use increasingly sophisticated electronic systems, and vehicle theft has become increasingly technology-driven.
Criminals may use techniques involving keyless entry systems, key cloning, relay attacks, diagnostic equipment and other electronic methods to gain access to and attempt to start vehicles.
Your vehicle's factory security system is designed to provide a level of protection, but adding a professionally installed aftermarket immobiliser gives you another layer of security.
The Ghost is designed to make the vehicle significantly more difficult to drive away without the correct authorisation.
A Ghost Immobiliser can provide additional protection against:
- Key cloning
- Relay-style theft
- Unauthorised vehicle starting
- Electronic vehicle theft techniques
- Attempts to bypass the vehicle's original immobiliser
- Theft following the theft or cloning of vehicle keys

The Ghost should be considered an additional security layer, rather than a replacement for your vehicle's factory security.
No security product can guarantee that a vehicle will never be stolen, but adding additional layers of protection can make your vehicle a considerably less attractive and more difficult target.
How It Works
How Does a Ghost Immobiliser Work?
The exact operation varies according to the vehicle and Ghost product installed, but the principle is straightforward.
After the Ghost has been professionally installed and configured, your vehicle is assigned a personalised disarm sequence.
On compatible Ghost-II installations, the sequence can be entered using existing vehicle controls such as steering wheel or dashboard buttons.
The vehicle can then be driven normally once the system has been authorised.
Autowatch's current Ghost-II operating instructions describe the process as:
The Ghost-II also supports smartphone/key-fob functionality on eligible versions, while newer Ghost products offer additional authorisation options depending on the vehicle and system fitted.

A Hidden Immobiliser With No Obvious Visual Clues
One of the major advantages of a Ghost installation is its discreet nature.
There is no need for a large aftermarket alarm control panel or obvious immobiliser keypad on the dashboard.
The system is installed discreetly within the vehicle and integrated with the vehicle's electronics.
At JB Autowerx, we take this further by carrying out installations with the same attention to detail we would expect on our own vehicles.
We aim to follow the vehicle's existing wiring routes and factory looms wherever possible, using appropriate clips, tape and installation methods to achieve a clean, professional finish.
The objective isn't simply to install the product. It's to install it properly.

Ghost Immobilisers for High-Risk & High-Value Vehicles
Some vehicles are particularly attractive to organised vehicle thieves.
For owners of desirable, high-value or frequently targeted vehicles, relying solely on the factory security system may not provide the level of reassurance they want.
We regularly recommend considering additional vehicle security on vehicles including:
- Range Rover
- Range Rover Sport
- Land Rover Defender
- Toyota
- Lexus
- BMW
- Mercedes-Benz
- Audi
- Porsche
- Volkswagen
- Performance and high-value vehicles

Range Rover, Toyota and Lexus vehicles in particular are among the vehicles for which owners frequently seek additional security.
The right security solution depends on the individual vehicle, its existing security systems and the way it is used.
That's why we don't take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Ghost Immobiliser for Range Rover & Land Rover
Range Rover and Land Rover owners are increasingly conscious of vehicle theft and electronic attack techniques.
A Ghost Immobiliser can provide an additional layer of protection by requiring authorisation before the vehicle can be driven.
For suitable vehicles, this can provide valuable protection alongside the manufacturer's existing security.
We can assess your exact Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Defender or other Land Rover model and advise which Ghost solution is appropriate.
Ghost Immobiliser for Toyota & Lexus
Toyota and Lexus vehicles are also popular candidates for additional aftermarket security.
If you own a Toyota or Lexus and are concerned about vehicle theft, a Ghost installation can add another layer of protection beyond the vehicle's original security system.
Because vehicle electronics and compatibility vary between models and model years, we will check the exact vehicle before recommending a system.
The Range
Which Ghost Immobiliser Is Right for My Vehicle?
We supply the Autowatch Ghost range, including:

Autowatch Ghost-II
The Ghost-II is an established CAN-bus immobiliser designed to prevent unauthorised vehicle use through a personalised disarm sequence.
It is currently listed by Autowatch as TASSA verified and supports a wide range of vehicle makes and models.
Key features include:
- Personalised disarm sequence
- Uses vehicle controls
- Covert installation
- CAN-bus integration
- Service/Valet mode
- Smartphone functionality on eligible installations
- Emergency override procedure
- No conventional additional RF remote required for normal PIN operation

Ghost Pro
For vehicles where the standard Ghost-II isn't the appropriate solution, Autowatch's Ghost Pro range provides alternative functionality and compatibility.
The exact system recommended depends on the vehicle's electronics and the requirements of the installation.

Ghost Pro FD / Ghost-III
Newer vehicles increasingly use high-speed CAN-FD networks.
Autowatch's current Ghost-III / Pro FD platform is designed for modern vehicle architectures and supports CAN-FD, with digital engine blocking through CAN/LIN and, where required, traditional circuit immobilisation.
It also supports authorisation through combinations of PIN, key-tag and smartphone functionality depending on the installation.
This makes selecting the correct product particularly important on newer vehicles.
We will check your vehicle before recommending the appropriate Ghost system.
Optional Upgrade
Ghost Bluetooth Siren – Optional Upgrade
For customers who want additional audible protection, we can also supply the Autowatch Bluetooth Siren as an optional addition.
The siren can complement your Ghost installation by adding an audible security element.
This is an optional extra and is not included in the £499 Ghost installation price.
If you would like the additional audible protection, simply mention this when submitting your enquiry.
Compare
Ghost Immobiliser vs a Tracker
A common question is whether you need a Ghost Immobiliser or a vehicle tracker.
The two systems perform different jobs.
Ghost Immobiliser
Designed to help prevent the vehicle from being driven away.
Vehicle Tracker
Designed to help locate the vehicle if it is stolen.
For higher-value vehicles, combining both technologies can provide a much stronger overall security strategy.
A Ghost can provide an additional barrier against unauthorised use, while a tracker can provide location and recovery capabilities.
At JB Autowerx, we can also supply and install Thatcham-approved tracking systems, allowing us to build a security package around your vehicle rather than simply selling you one product.
